THE SCENT OF FIRE AND MAGIC
Autumn smells like fire. It’s the scent of timbers you catch from the fireplaces people start heating again. It’s the memory of small fires to burn piles of fallen leaves in the rural area where I grew up. Change is in the air, and it’s painted in beautiful colors, red, yellow, orange. The days are growing shorter, and you spend more time in the home, with a cup of tea and a good book, some time in the future Christmas and the New Year, on the horizon but not quite here yet.
One of my all-time favorite authors Tess Gerritsen said in an interview that the long and colder winters where she lives on the East coast are perfect for writing. Living on the East coast now, just “a bit” further North, I can testify to that. Instead of spending as much time as possible outside like in the summer, with fall there comes contemplation, going on the inside, starting to look at what the year brought and what the hopes for the next one are.
Autumn is NaNoWriMo too. When I took part for the first time in 2010, I wasn’t sure if I could make it to 50,000 words in thirty days (considering I was working two jobs at the time), but I gave it a try. Those darker, more contemplative days led to “Autumn Leaves”, a novel that is all about the gentle but irreversible change that fall brings, literally, and as a metaphor.
For the second time autumn also means small children coming to the door and demanding candy on October 31st, something that isn’t that much of a custom where I come from. With all those little ghosts, fairies and superheroes walking the streets, it’s not hard to remember the magic that autumn is.

Autumn is my favorite season! I like all the beautiful colors outside and the weather is not that hot anymore but not freezing cold either. It's just perfect! Thank you for the giveaway!

Thank you for taking part--the winner will be drawn soon! So many things to love about Autumn!
DeleteIt’s hard to say what exactly would be my Go-To Autumn Romance book. When I think real hard about it, I would have to say it has a sexy, strong, determined male that when it comes to love is just lost. Then there has to be a woman who is usually in need of help or needs to know what love and family is. Together they heal each other and love turns out to be their greatest gift. I also love a happy ending at this time of year, usually where the epilogue has them starting their own family to love and cherish. Oh….and definitely HOT loving too!

I agree with everything! The giveaway ended now, drawing will be soon.
DeleteI love the burst of colors! The fall earth tone colors are very festive and beautiful. I am lucky to live where you can see the seasons change. I love reading any time so the season doesn’t matter but a fire and snuggling are seductive... :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity for both of us to share!

DeleteMy favorite thing about Autumn/Fall is the changing color of the leaves, orange, yellow, red, even purple. They are so pretty. My least favorite thing is raking up those pretty leaves. LOL I love to curl up by the fire and read a hot romance book on a cold fall evening. Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win. <^_^>

ReplyDeleteMy favorite part about autumn is that the cool weather gives me the perfect excuse to keep my oven full of yummy deliciousness that I really can't do during two of the three other seasons. I love the feeling of being able to have yummy stuff baking while I nestle in with a good read.
